It’s All About Me!!!!!!!!!

A weekend of special activities in the Lexington, GA Historic District

You are all probably ready for adventures outside the house after the storm of 2011 and we have just the thing coming up. Lexington, GA, a small historic town between Athens and Washington, will host a day trip getaway for women the last weekend in January. The activities are geared to women except for the Sunday Tour of Homes and Buildings and the Friday afternoon ‘Meet the Artists Reception’ at Hummingbird House, from 4 to 7, which is open to all. This is a great opportunity to meet and talk to the featured artists and authors.

Plan to come early and visit the shops in downtown Lexington, GA – several antique and ‘junque’ shops and Oglethorpe Fresh, which features all Oglethorpe made arts, crafts, and other products (like local honey), will be open during the weekend. There is also a self-guided walking tour of the historic district – brochures available at the shops and at Hummingbird House.

On Saturday, at Hummingbird House, the six featured artists will be showing their work and will have special pricing for attendees and some will also be demonstrating their craft. The Artists are: Carole Chalmers, Portraitist, Ellen Cowne, Jewelry Artist, Ruth Jones, Watercolorist, Diane Davies, Potter, Laurel Genteman, Artist, and Sally Ross, Fine Art Photography.  Here are some examples of their work......

Saturday and Sunday activities also include book signings by local authors, a masseuse on site, special portrait sittings, a wine tasting, gaming rooms available for bridge or bunco groups to use and some other surprises. Four of the featured local authors are Betty Cory: Crabbing Days of an Islander, Ellen Cowne: Dick and Jane Don’t Live Anymore, Martha Phillips: Written on a Rock, Donny Seagraves: Gone From These Woods, James B. Harrison, Jr: Killer.

Sunday afternoon, in addition to the above activities, will feature a Tour of Historic Lexington Homes and Buildings from 2 to 5, sponsored by the Lexington Downtown Development Authority. Email tcrga@windstream.net to reserve your tickets ($15.00 each).

It’s All About Me Getaway activities are centered at Hummingbird House Bed and Breakfast located at 120 West Church Street, 706-340-1049. Hours are 4 to 7 on Friday, 11 to 5 on Saturday and 1 to 5 on Sunday.

Check Facebook: ‘It’s All About Me Getaway Weekend’ for more information, changes, and additions or call Linda at 706-340-1049.

  1. Hi Lynn....how have you been?....I was away for a month is Jersey and I'm still not back to normal...I missed the big storm here but we had three storms and one of them dropped 30 inches...everytime we tried to come home it would snow...it's nice to be back where the sun is shining and today it's gorgeous....I've already sat out on the deck this morning.....This weekend for just the girls sounds like so much fun....I have no idea where that is...I love little quaint towns with old homes....Have fun if your going and I hope to see you again soon....Sue.
